Rare Blue Whale photos here

Depoe Bay will be featuring the only Whale Museum in the state and the only museum in the world that focuses on individual gray whales. Carrie Newell's dream was to work with whales and ultimately open a museum to share all her knowledge of the whales and all other creatures inhabiting the gray whale's realm. As a child growing up in Michigan, Carrie dreamt of working with Jacques Cousteau and his team. This dream became a reality when, in 2004, Jean Michael Cousteau contacted her to have her ground breaking research featured on a film titled "Gray Whale Obstacle Course." Her research was also broadcast on an Oregon Field Guide episode. "My present dream and focus is to teach people that gray whales are individuals with personalities! I also want to share with as many people as possible, my extensive collections of shells, sharks, seabirds, sea lion, seal and whale artifacts." As a marine biology teacher for 20 years, Carrie has developed unique teaching materials including books and posters that portray educational information in an understandable format. The museum will feature a section on Oregon's summer resident gray whales, a whale, dolphin and porpoise room, a shark room, a tropical ocean room, an intertidal display with cubbies of common and world wide invertebrates, a seal, sea lion and sea otter room, a seabird and shorebird room and a theater room.
